CT, DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY & ULTRASONOGRAPHY

We believe in investing in the best imaging technology possible to ensure our team is equipped to provide excellent diagnostic services.

Our newest addition to our imaging center is our new in-house 64-Slice CT scanner. A Computerized Tomography (CT) scan used special digital x-ray detectors to take highly detailed, 2D images of "slices" or sections of the body. We believe that bringing this CT to Victoria will help the entire veterinary community. Thus, we are extending access to our Imaging Center to all veterinarians in the Golden Crescent region.

Digital radiography captures high quality images in a digital format that allows for manipulation of the image to see structures that may be hidden by the older forms of radiography that utilize film. The captured images can be burned to a disc or e-mailed for further evaluation at another location. Survey films are the most common types of radiographs performed, but occasionally contrast films are required that may include a barium study, contrast cystogram, etc. Large dog breeders may also request OFA hip certification that is easily accomplished with digital radiography.

Digital ultrasonography captures instant, high resolution soft tissue images in a digital format that can be e-mailed for further evaluation at another location. The images obtained with digital ultrasound allow for visualization into organs including the liver, kidneys, bladder, heart, spleen, etc. that is not possible with radiography.

TRAVELING & HEALTH CERTIFICATES

If you are thinking about traveling with your pet, there are several things to consider. Pet care can differ from state to state and country to country.

Domestic Air Travel Health Certificates

Vaccinations should be current and you should obtain a pet health certificate that is dated no more than 10 days prior to departure. Verify rabies  vaccination requirements with the state or country that you are traveling to and be sure to get a copy of your up-to-date rabies certificate which is required if traveling by air.  Rabies certificates are not required for ground travel, but are highly recommended as you may have to unexpectedly board your animal in a kennel.

International Health Certificates

  • You are able to request an international health certificate from either the embassy of the country you’re traveling to, or from our office.  Always request the international health certificate at least six months in advance in order for you to have time to make arrangements to get your pet vaccinated, examined, and to get all paperwork in order.

  • International health certificates for pets are only accepted by foreign countries if they have been filled out by a nationally accredited veterinarian.

  • Research what specific tests and vaccinations are required by the country you will be visiting.  These requirements are usually listed on the country’s website.  The veterinarian will then record the test results on the international certificate which should be dated no more than ten days prior to the date of your departure.

  • Take your completed international health certificate to a USDA Veterinary Services office to be endorsed.  USDA endorsement is a requirement on all international health certificates.  You can find a USDA Veterinary Services office in your area on the USDA website.

  • Be sure to bring your international health certificate with you to the airport to present to airline personnel.

Spays can be performed any time after 3 months old and can be performed when the female is in heat or pregnant. Neuters can be performed any time after 3 months old.
